Kibale Forest National Park

Kibale forest National Park is located in the Western part of Uganda in the district of Kamwenge about 450 kilometers from the capital city Kampala and can be driven in just about 5-6 hours. It is one of the newly created Parks having been a forest reserve and it has been a national park since 1995. The park covers 795kmand is bordering to the northern end of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Most of the Southwest part of Kibale National Park is a mix of grassland and wetland with interesting plant life, while North and Southeast part are mainly tropical forest with more than 345 trees species recorded in the area over (27% of country’s total).

Kibale forest is the largest forested national park in Uganda, and it hosts over 60 different species of mammal and it’s  most known for the highest concentration of primate in the world, it host over 13 species of primates coupled with chimpanzees man’s closest relative. The park is also regarded as hosting the highest number of chimpanzees in the world and one of the five parks that apparently have chimpanzee habituation project operating in Uganda. Not only chimpanzees but other primate species include black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, red tailed monkey, bush baby, mammal species which are rarely seen at the park include leopard, buffaloes, giant forest hogs, bush pig, duiker, elephant, and reptiles commonly seen include bush buck, duikers and giant forest squirrels and over 400 different species of birds are also recorded in the area 4 of which are endemic to this park to mention some include the grey Parrot, African Crowned eagles and black bee-eaters, Guinea Fowl, butterflies are also common to the park over 45 species are recorded.
